'Woolly Jumpers: Made in Peru' is a Pupfish Co-Production with Discovery Channel International. After a forging a successful working partnership on their film 'Make Me a Monkey' we were asked in 2006 by Pupfish to compose original music for the show, and to provide full sound post production. From the earliest stages it was agreed that bespoke music would be the best way to make this show a bit special. Work began on an initial library of music back in May '06, and those tracks were in turn given to editor Lauren Pushkin to use as temp tracks. When sections of the show were locked then the music was fitted to the picture, either from versions of the temp tracks or pieces written entirely to picture. Some of the music cues, such as the opening and closing titles, are critically important to the feel of the show and this was reflected in the proportion of time spent on them. A set of bumps and teases were also created for the ad breaks. Remarkably the approvals process with both companies regarding could not have gone smoother and everybody ended up being very happy with the music.
Due to very tight schedules parts of sound post process ran concurrently with the music production. From recording Voiceover to final mix the entire post schedule had to be worked around the event of the summer - The World Cup!! Regular breaks of approximately 45mins had to be taken to view the second half of any decent looking match. This led to some fairly odd hours being worked but we got there in the end - on time and on budget!! Better than the England team….
'Woolly Jumpers: Made in Peru' first aired in September '06 and was a big hit with the critics. It was featured as one of the choices of the month in BBC Wildlife Magazine and was digital choice of the day in Radio Times.
Pupfish Productions next production with Discovery Channel International is currently filming in Thailand. Once again Timesquared Audio has been asked to compose original music. We are also providing a 5.1 surround mixed version of the dubbing mix. The show aired on Animal Planet in the first quarter of 2008.
